Mentor Soccer Club offers an exciting and informative in-house program for our budding 4, 5, 6, and 7-year-old players! We have designed this program to focus on team building, fundamentals, and FUN! Our team leaders are coaches, student-athletes, and parents volunteering their time to keep our young soccer stars active and learning! One of our parents’ favorite parts about our program is that the spring season is automatically included when registering your player for the fall season!
We take a lot of pride in our in-house program. Over the years, we have focused on teaching our players the fundamentals of the game of soccer. It’s never too early to learn! Our little ones learn how to dribble, pass, and create space on the field, all while having a blast!
Our program is broken into U4/U5 and U6/U7 divisions. All teams within the in-house program may be co-ed or same-gender and are offered in both Fall and Spring.
Our soccer teams will be limited, allowing games to be 4v4 or 5v5 on small-sided fields with no goalie. All teams play one session a week.
What players will need for practices and games:
Each player is required to wear their MSC uniform and shin guards. Cleats are mandatory. Jewelry must be removed before all sessions. Water bottles and a smile are highly encouraged! Chairs, blankets, and your camera are also good ideas! Please, no smoking or pets on our fields.
Teams will rotate between practice sessions and game sessions. Schedules will be released two weeks before the start of the season. Our Lead Coach will determine the drills and sometimes ask for parent involvement.
Teams will rotate between practice sessions and game sessions Saturdays, or Our coaches will determine the drills and sometimes ask for parent involvement. Practices last one hour; at the end of practice, 2 teams will hold about a 15-minute scrimmage. One coach between the two teams will be the referee for the game, but there will still be no scorekeeping. Our coaches are on the field guiding the players!

Recreational (Rec) Soccer is designed for those interested in basic soccer skills training and playing games. Rec Soccer generally involves less commitment (e.g., practices) than Travel or Premier Soccer.
· Fall games and practices will begin in August.
· Spring Games and practices will begin in April.
· All Rosters and Game schedules are posted under Team Central (also accessed through My Account when logged in to mentorsoccerclub.com.
While most U8 and older Co-ed divisions are Boys, girls can participate in any Co-ed division. We will try to split Boys and Girls equally to provide a comfortable learning environment.
Players may play up two birth years (e.g., a U10 may play up to U12). You must register in your birth year, then e-mail registrar@mentorsoccerclub.com requesting a transfer to the older division.
Payment for Rec Soccer includes the Fall and Spring seasons if paid in the Fall. Players will play with the same team in Fall and Spring. Indoor soccer is not included.
MSC’s primary objective in forming teams is to create fair and balanced teams. Also note that since there are no tryouts for Rec, children are placed blindly without knowing their skill set.
Note: Mentor Soccer Club reserves the right to combine divisions, birth years, and gender when necessary based on the number of participants signed up.
REC COACHES
Rec Soccer coaches are selected from parents, volunteers, and family members from MSC’s membership who sign up as Volunteers. However, all Volunteer coaches must have a Concussion and Lindsay’s Law Certificate. All rec teams MUST have a parent coach volunteer. We don’t provide coaches due to the price. Rec coaches are not required to have any soccer knowledge. ( Refunds are not given if a parent does not volunteer).
PRACTICES
Team Practices – should be held two weeks before the start of the season. However, coaches can have practices during the season as well.
GAMES
Rec Soccer games, including make-up games, are held on weeknights and Saturdays.Games are played at various fields in the City of Mentor.
MSC policy is that each player should play a minimum of 50% of the playing time. However, some players may elect not to play at their discretion when asked to play by the coach.
TOURNAMENTS
Rec teams generally do not enter tournaments. Any tournament participation would be at the coach’s and parent’s discretion, and only those families participating would be expected to pay.
